BIGORRE KITCHEN

I attended Susan and Doug's recent Burn's Night evening with a group of French people who are part of the twinning association between Bagnères-de-Bigorre and Inverurie in Scotland. After enjoying the rituals, the toasts, and the most imaginative (and delicious) haggis neeps and taties I have ever seen, as well as the equally delicious traditional dessert 'Cranachan', the night was not over! The Scottish dancing got underway, and novices and experts helped each other reel around the dance floor. There was much fun, laughter and surprise on the part of the French, that Scottish dancing had quite a lot in common with some of the local dances from this region. On the way home I heard nothing but compliments for the quality of the food, the warm welcome, and the friendliness of the hosts. I think next year they may have to do a week of Burn's Nights - one night will just not be enough!
